Top Insights

Over the past two months, the price of eggs has rapidly increased and our supply has decreased due to the following three factors:

  • The war in Ukraine has caused the price of energy and feed to increase for farms. As a result, many farms have been unable to replace and rear egg producing chicks, causing a shortage across the UK and Europe.
  • Last week, one of the biggest colonies – which houses over 300,000 birds – was hit with bird flu fuelling an even larger shortage.
  • We rely on farms having surplus eggs, as our suppliers often have large contracts with the major supermarkets. While we are currently working incredibly hard to get new contracts in place, many farms are only able to supply the major retailers due to the current shortage in supply.
